The time is upon us, its Fall Mini Photo Session season!  Many photographers (including myself) are opening up fall family sessions to ensure clients have all the imagery they need for Christmas cards, posts, and just generally updating their home spaces!

1. Plan your wardrobe

Deciding what to wear for your photography session can be one of the most overwhelming decisions about a session.  I mean, you are investing your time and money into capturing family memories, of course you want to look fantastic.  Check out my post What to Wear for Your Family Session for tips on what to wear.

2. Get your beauty sleep

Ensuring you get a full night of sleep and drink plenty of water on the days leading up to your session.  This will not only help you look good, but help with patience.  Which is especially helpful to families with children.

3.  Bring treats to help along sessions with small children

If you have small children, bring snacks, water, and treats!  This is immensely helpful when children will not cooperate.  Also, try to plan sessions around meal and nap times. Don't wait to eat until after your session, empty stomachs means grouchy people!

4. No "smile" or "cheese"

I want your session to look as natural and beautiful as possible.  The less "posed" the better!

5.  Trust your Photographer

We are professionals, so trust we can do an amazing job for you!  You chose us to capture your family, so relax and enjoy!

And there you have my tips for making the most of your session.  Want to book a fall mini session with me?  Click here to sign up!

Everything is always a little more interesting when there are kiddos involved, and even more so when trying to get photos of those kiddos!  But after this sweet group of cousins warmed up to me with my camera in hand, I think I captured some sweet moments of these sweet littles.

I am looking forward to finishing up this family session and sharing more images!  Thank you for having me, Bridget and family!

Deciding what to wear for your photography session can be one of the most overwhelming decisions about a session.  I mean, you are investing your time and money into capturing family memories, of course you want to look fantastic.  Below are a few tips to help you choose the best outfits for you and your family to ensure timeless images and beautiful memories.

• Coordinate your outfits, but do not match them.  Too much matching tends to make images look outdated very quickly.

• If you are having business headshots done, dress professionally, but also try and coordinate with your business logo.  This will help create a cohesive look on your website and social channels.

• Avoid logos and character outfits.  They are distracting and will also date your images.

• Accessories can add texture to your outfit, like jewelry and scarves. (No hats! Hats can cast unwanted shadows)

• For a family session, think about your home decor.  Most likely you will hang the photos in your home, and you want them to look good with your home's style.

• Have fun with it!  Choose something that expresses who you are or your personal style.

I hope this helps when choosing your outfits for your next photography session!

Cara, Trent and Isla are some of the most fun people I know here in Hamilton, but when they told me they were not the "casual photo people" it set me on a mission to show them that that was definitely not a true statement.  I feel like I captured some fun, relaxed images of their family.  We had such a fun time checking out the beautiful autumn colors along the Bitterroot River.  I brought along my husband and kids because my son Brantley loves to hang out with his buddy Isla.

We spent the time wandering, chatting, and laughing as I captured some special moments for this family of three, soon to be four, as they are expecting a baby boy in December.  I really look forward to more family memories for these guys and hopefully they will allow me to capture some photos of their new little guy soon.

Congratulations Cara, Trent, and Isla!  I look forward to your new family journey!

So I thought I would do a fun little update on how the Montana Made Wedding Fair 2018 went for me!  The Fair was held on November 4th at the Ravalli County Fairgrounds and I am still recovering from all the hard work! :D

First off, being a member of the Bitterroot Wedding Association is wonderful, they advertise my business on their wedding resources page, while also offering fun mixers throughout the year so I can get to know other wedding vendors in the Valley.

Autumn and the rest of the team did a wonderful job setting up the fair to ensure it ran smoothly and looked beautiful.  Set up was easy and not stressful at all!  I was given plenty of time to get my booth set up for the fair, and go out to dinner with my family afterwords.  No all nighters here because of the time that was available to set up.

I got married about 5 years ago and I planned my wedding from out of state, so I never really attended any Bride-To-Be events, so it was really fun to experience this and just be excited for all the couples that are planning their weddings.  Its so much fun to get all your loved ones together to celebrate love, and just to have a good time.

I met quite a few brides looking for photographers, but I also met couples that had already locked their photographer down!  Very proactive.  But we do book up for the season quickly.  (ps. I have a few openings for 2019 so if you are thinking about booking, do it now, before I book up!)

It was a wonderful weekend meeting couples and other vendors and I look forward to being involved next year.
