The time is upon us, its Fall Mini Photo Session season!  Many photographers (including myself) are opening up fall family sessions to ensure clients have all the imagery they need for Christmas cards, posts, and just generally updating their home spaces!

1. Plan your wardrobe

Deciding what to wear for your photography session can be one of the most overwhelming decisions about a session.  I mean, you are investing your time and money into capturing family memories, of course you want to look fantastic.  Check out my post What to Wear for Your Family Session for tips on what to wear.

2. Get your beauty sleep

Ensuring you get a full night of sleep and drink plenty of water on the days leading up to your session.  This will not only help you look good, but help with patience.  Which is especially helpful to families with children.

3.  Bring treats to help along sessions with small children

If you have small children, bring snacks, water, and treats!  This is immensely helpful when children will not cooperate.  Also, try to plan sessions around meal and nap times. Don't wait to eat until after your session, empty stomachs means grouchy people!

4. No "smile" or "cheese"

I want your session to look as natural and beautiful as possible.  The less "posed" the better!

5.  Trust your Photographer

We are professionals, so trust we can do an amazing job for you!  You chose us to capture your family, so relax and enjoy!

And there you have my tips for making the most of your session.  Want to book a fall mini session with me?  Click here to sign up!

Cara, Trent and Isla are some of the most fun people I know here in Hamilton, but when they told me they were not the "casual photo people" it set me on a mission to show them that that was definitely not a true statement.  I feel like I captured some fun, relaxed images of their family.  We had such a fun time checking out the beautiful autumn colors along the Bitterroot River.  I brought along my husband and kids because my son Brantley loves to hang out with his buddy Isla.

We spent the time wandering, chatting, and laughing as I captured some special moments for this family of three, soon to be four, as they are expecting a baby boy in December.  I really look forward to more family memories for these guys and hopefully they will allow me to capture some photos of their new little guy soon.

Congratulations Cara, Trent, and Isla!  I look forward to your new family journey!

I first met Chrissy at our local hospital's baby class when we were both pregnant with our first child.  She only came to one class and later told me she had gone into labor that very next morning.  Talk about timing.  We continued to run into each other at community events since our kids are around the same age.  We talk often and I definitely consider her and her family our friends.  So I jumped at the chance to take their FIRST (after 12 or 13 years together) family photos!

We picked the perfect day, it was quiet and the rain held off just long enough for us to get some great shots.  The grounds at the Daly Mansion truly are gorgeous this time of year.

Thank you Chrissy for letting me capture some photos of your beautiful family!

Last weekend I had the pleasure of meeting Sharon and her family for a four generation family session.  Sharon booked with me because it is so rare these days to have so many family members in one photo, and she wanted to capture the moment.  The session took place behind the family home just outside Hamilton, with all the great grandparents, grandparents, kids and grandkids together.  The Bitterroot Mountains in the background.  We coordinated a time around the grandkids nap time, which lead to some bright and harsh lighting, but I found a shaded spot underneath a tree and the family did the rest.  I tried to capture some traditional images as well as some fun ("breezy" as the family kept saying) shots.  Overall, the session was fun and the personality and love this family has really shines in the photos.
